I took the Rivian R1S up to Big Bear for the Toyo Tires Trail Pass event, and it was an epic adventure! This time, I went solo – seats folded down, gear everywhere!
We started at 98% state of charge and headed up to Holcomb Valley to meet up with the Rivian Club! You'll see our campsite setup, complete with Starlink, Anker Solix portable battery, and an AstroAI fridge. I even attempted to set up a tent (it wasn't a pop-up, so I ended up sleeping in the R1S!) and tested out the R1S Camp Mode.
I then walked around the Trail Pass event, checking out some incredible overlanding rigs, from custom Land Cruisers to a super cool Mitsubishi Delica van. So many ideas for future mods!
After a chilly night (39°F!), I dive into my Camp Mode battery consumption – how much charge did the R1S use overnight with climate control? I also show off the auto-leveling feature for camping, which is truly a game-changer.
On the way down from Big Bear, I put the R1S in Sport Mode through the canyons, and let me tell you, the control and handling are INSANE for an SUV of this size! Plus, the regenerative braking gave us tons of "free" miles going downhill.
This was my first real camping trip in the Rivian, and it was a fantastic experience. Huge thanks to everyone at the Rivian Club and Toyo Tires for a great event!
